Seeing a debadged car: Hey, they must be really into cars.

Seeing a debadged Altima: I can’t believe Eddy’s Body Shop forgot to replace the badges.

This has seen a hard life. Someone might have loved but but they were probably a few owners ago.

The rules:

An automobile, motorcycle or truck, manufactured after 1915 and more than 25 years old; equipped with an engine manufactured either at the same time as the vehicle or to the specifications of the original engine; substantially maintained in original or restored condition, and used primarily for exhibitions, club activities, parades or events of public interest. An antique auto may not be used as the owner’s primary mode of transportation of passengers or goods, and may not be a reconstructed vehicle or altered vehicle.

I’ll admit it feels silly to consider that an antique, but 25 years is actually a long time.

Might be the budget-- those fake Ebay badges can go for 50 cents each.

It’s forever for those of us waiting to import a Brera.  *Looks nervously around*. “Did I just say that out loud?”

Shows how car we’ve come when I lived in a Maine any car that old would have been a pile of rust before it was eligible for that plate

A couple months back I saw a rusty beat down first gen Explorer running on Antique plates.  I had to laugh.

Right. Technically it is an antique. Anything older than 94.

But think of the balls that took. Owner is either a comedy genius or a complete idiot. Either way it’s funny.

Ya but that’s not 25 years old...

It’s at least a 2002 as the 2001 is the old bodystyle yet, so how did they even get those plates!?!?!

Yeah I’m sure, I left the state in 91 I just have memories of 70s mostly GM vehicles that were in my High School parking lot with transparent body panels. Those and my fa ther’s I nternational Scout which rusted through so quickly it actually had the body tub replaced under warranty.

I wanna know how they got antique plates for a 17 year old ( or newer, 02 is the first year for this body ) car?

Kinja'd!!! CalzoneGolem > My X-type is too a real Jaguar

I’d suggest that 70's GM and Scouts are pretty poor examples of rust resistance under the best of conditions.

As recently as 10-15 years ago, I remember being surprised by the amount of old Beetles still running around Maine, at least in the summer.

Probably swapped off another car so they could move it. Or else doing something more illegal.

We’re looking at someone who wanted to register their car legally for the least amount of money possible and is banking on no cops calling him on it because they’ve got better things to do.

So it’s cheaper to register an antique car?  Is is because you don’t have to pass inspection requirements?  If so, that’s its own kind of genius.

I’m like that with Volvos. For some reason their bodies always seem to look 10 years older than they actually are.

Yep, easily looks like a 60s car.

Or a 1993 240:

Which easily looks like a late 70s-early 80s car.

It’s also incredibly cheap to insure a car with antique plates since the idea is you won’t be driving it much.

Illegally? I’ll admit I don’t care enough about these to recognize what year they are from...

Kinja'd!!! ranwhenparked > Long_Voyager, Now With More Caravanny Goodness

Kinja'd!!!0

Well, that’s because the 122 is a mid ‘ 50s car that was built into the ‘7 0s, and the 240 was just a heavy facelift of the 140 from the late ‘6 0s that was built into the ‘90s. In common with other independent automakers, Volvo used to have long production runs. That ended when they became part of Ford and then Geely.

Hahahahahahahahahfdiksajkds;l. That’s a 2002—the only year with the orange lights, IIRC. I had one. It was awful. I am only disappointed that I couldn’t see mine get fed to the crusher.

If someone preserves an Altima of that generation with that wretched QR25DE engine as an antique, it should simply serve as a warning.

Huh then this clearly doesn’t qualify for the antique plates on it. Weird!
